BLACKBURN Rovers are considering a move to bring Paul Gallagher back to Ewood Park after the forward was made available by Leicester.

Rovers boss Gary Bowyer, who is close to completing the signing of a utility player, is assessing a number of targets this summer and one of those is understood to be Gallagher.

The 28-year-old started his career at Rovers and 74 appearances between 2003 and 2009, but found it difficult to establish himself as a regular in the starting line-up.

He had loan spells with Stoke, Preston and Plymouth before moving on to Leicester on a permanent deal.

But Gallagher has now fallen out of favour under Nigel Pearson at the East Midlands club and has been told he can find a new club, potentially on a free transfer – even though he still has two years left on his contract.

Bowyer, who knows Gallagher well from their time together at Rovers, is thought to be considering a move and the player is expected to be keen to return to a club where he had happy times previously.

Although Rovers are closing in on their fourth signing of the summer, they are also wary of bringing in too many players before they have been able to reduce their wage bill by moving on some high earners who are surplus to requirements.

Danny Murphy and Mauro Formica are among a number of players who Rovers will let go if they can find a club willing to take on their wages.

That task has not been an easy one so far this summer, meaning Bowyer has had to wait on some potential signings.

Bradford City striker Nahki Wells is another on his list of possible striking options, although the Bantams remain keen to retain the Bermuda international.

The 23-year-old has two years left on his contract and would command a fee of around £800,000 after his playing a key role in Bradford’s promotion to League One and their run to the League Cup final.

There has been progress on one Ewood exit, though, with centre back Nuno Henrique shaking hands on a deal to spend the season at Arouca in his native Portugal.

Henrique joined Rovers on a three-year contract last summer but has not made a first-team appearance.

Steve Kean admitted when Henrique arrived that he had never seen the 26-year-old defender play, and that the signing had been made on the recommendation of global advisor Shebby Singh.

Olhanense have also been interested in Henrique this summer, together with Vitoria Setubal and his former club Academica de Coimbra.

Venky’s are continuing their attempts to bring in a new senior football executive, with suggestions that they could look at up to four candidates.

Among those rumoured for the role has been ex-QPR technical director Mike Rigg, formerly chief scout at Rovers. Adam Pearson and Peter Kenyon have previously been linked with potential boardroom roles at the club.
