HULL City have registered their interest in Charlie Austin but the Premier League newcomers have yet to make an official approach, the Lancashire Telegraph understands.
It has been speculated that Burnley rejected a £4million offer from the Tigers, but those reports appear to be wide of the mark with sources in Humberside suggesting the club has merely put feelers out on Austin.
Enquiries concerning up to five strikers are believed to have been made, with Austin among them.
Hull have yet to make a bid, but it is likely they will have tested the water with Burnley about what sort of offer the Clarets would be prepared to listen to.
The Clarets are looking for a price similar to the £7million they received from Southampton for Jay Rodriguez last summer.
It is higher than the figure in mind for Hull, who are also understood to have made enquiries about Gary Hooper at Celtic, and Blackburn Rovers’ Jordan Rhodes.
