DUNDEE United have asked Blackburn Rovers for an answer on their loan bid for David Goodwillie by the end of today.

The SPL club are keen to take Goodwillie back to Tannadice on a long-term loan, two years after selling him to Rovers for an initial fee of £2m.

Hearts and Aberdeen have also been linked with a potential loan move but Dundee United head the queue and want an answer from Rovers by tonight as they prepare for the exit of Johnny Russell.

Rovers would be required to subsidise Goodwillie’s wages if he departed on loan and Bowyer must now assess what is best both for the club and the player.

Goodwillie featured rarely last season but did start Rovers’ final two games of the campaign following injuries and suspensions.

Bowyer did not entirely appreciate Dundee United making their interest public.

“It’s one thing coming out in the press and saying you’re interested, but we’d much rather do things in house and have a look at it,” said the Rovers boss.

“Goodie had a good run towards the end of the season. Whether he wants to get more regular games, it’s something we’ll have to look at.”
