Boro eye Blackburn Rovers winger King

MIDDLESBROUGH are pondering a summer move for Blackburn Rovers winger Josh King.

King signed a two-and-a-half-year deal when he joined Rovers on a permanent basis in January, two months after signing on loan from Manchester United, but he is understood to be among the names Middlesbrough are considering as they look to bolster their squad this summer.

Boro boss Tony Mowbray is looking to bring in a wide man as they aim to rejuvenate their fortunes following a poor second half of the season.

Middlesbrough were in automatic promotion at the turn of the year but took only 12 points from their final 21 games to finish 16th in the Championship table – only one place above Rovers.

King was hampered by injury after his Rovers move became permanent, affecting his bid to reach top form in the second half of the season, but he did start four of the final five games of the campaign.

The 21-year-old scored against Mowbray’s Middlesbrough during a loan spell at Hull City at the end of last season and his raw pace could be an attraction for potential suitors.

Clubs may view some of Rovers’ squad as potentially bargain signings, particularly following Blackburn’s very public legal fight over the £2.25m compensation claim of former boss Henning Berg.

Rovers eventually lost that case last week but are still likely to want a fair price for players if they do decide to accept bids for any of their current squad this summer.

There was no further news on the future of caretaker boss Gary Bowyer yesterday, following positive talks with Venky’s.

Bowyer remains the favourite for the job but is still waiting for the final go-ahead from the owners and has now gone on holiday as planned.

The club are yet to confirm any pre-season friendlies but non-league side Harrogate Town have announced that they will face Rovers' under 21s on Saturday, July 20 at 3pm.

Welsh club Bala Town also say they will take on Rovers on Friday, August 2, with the under 18s set to make the trip.

The new Football League season commences a day later on Saturday, August 3.

* Former Blackburn Rovers youngster Jackson Ramm has been released by Colchester United. The full back had a loan with Cambridge City this season.

If Venkys have any ambition, ( they have shown none before) they will keep their good young players and ADD to the squad. They should not be considering selling any of the better players (only the dross) if they want promotion. We escaped by the skin of our teeth this time but if they weaken the squad by seling the better players, we won't be so lucky next time.....We'll see what their level of ambition is during the next few weeks. My prerdiction is, no change.

I Couldn’t agree more, mate. However, from what I saw he was absolute dross. Looked completely lost in the few games I watched him in. When he got subbed it was almost as if he was being put out of his misery. He looked disinterested. He went missing for long spells. I can't remember him delivering a cross. He kept running down blind alleys and even the goals he has scored have been scrappy ones.

Just don't think we would miss him if he left.

Will the club turn a profit and be able to put that towards a winger who can play the final ball or put a cross in?

If so then sell.

How the mighty have fallen with this shower in charge.

Still better get used to it we will be in there league in a couple of years time.

Another day passes, Middlebroughs manager is looking to buy for next season and we are still manager less and the potential manager goes on holiday, someone should have told GB there will be plenty of time to go on holiday six weeks into the season when the inevitable happens!!!

God I'm depressing myself even more, to early for a drink I suppose!!

If we can get a good deal (£3-4mil) then we should let him go. Looked ok during his loan but since we signed him I don't think he played more then 6 games without getting injured. This may have affected his form but he looked lazy, disinterested and doesn't seem like a winger IMO. Got pace but can't beat a man down the line and cross the ball.
Ideally, if possible, we should sign 2 wingers who actually know how to play the position.

Agree with some of your points but let's remember this is a young player in a poor team coming back from injury. Let''s not be too hasty in dismissing young players too early. To me he has the speed and build to put himself about a bit. I'd give him another season under Bowyer and think we could see a different player in 12 months time.

There are very few players in todays game that can actually cross a ball. Kevin Gallagher was talking about this on the final match commentary against Birmingham. Clearly Man U decided king was not going to deliver. The niggling hamstring injuries are not good in a young player always at the back of the players mind. With Kings pace and managing to stay clear of injury he is a raw talent who may be worth keeping for another season to see if he can progress

Perhaps a little rich coming from Shadsworth's finest. It's been well documented that over 75% of the chav's, theives and bagheads appearing on Jeremy Kyle originate from the sprawling metropolis of Shadsworth. Apparently the production crew canvas the area fortnightly looking to round up the local pondlife and gluesniffers to tell their sordid stories of interbreeding and substance abuse. In fact I remember the episode in which you made the startling admission that your mum was in fact your dad all along and that after consummating your relationship with her/him you were feeling a tad confused about the ensuing pregnancy.

I had the misfortune of having to drive through Shadsworth last week, how people can actually live in such a cesspit of crime and abject filth is beyond me. Orange skinned single mums pushing double-buggys with cross-eyed children that bark? Madness I tell you. Good luck to you sir.

Had to laugh at your comment!
It is true, the Shadsworth area of Blackburn is an awful area and there are many others as well. Your comments about JK, inter breeding etc etc (yawn) are somewhat of a moot point as Burnley is certainly no better! Clearly you have never actually been to Burnley (which was voted in a national poll as one of the worst and most deprived areas to live in the whole of the UK!)
Your claim that it has been well documented that over 75% of chavs on JK come from Shadsworth is also unfounded as there is no such documentation which states this.

So, in a nutshell, your comeback was pointless, totally incorrect and quite honestly has shown that you have about the same intellectual capacity as those dingle fans that kick out the windows of their own coach and smash up their own town following a defeat. Either that or an amoeba, there's not much difference to be honest.

Arte et Labore
Moot point ? Isn't that a place in Burnley where you can buy a car ?

Sigh... what lazy journalism from the Telegraph once again.

I notice that this 'article' has absolutely no evidence of the following:

1) That Rovers are in any way, shape or form in any kind of financial difficulty or hardship

2) That Rovers have any need or desire to get rid of any first team players, especially one who signed a 2.5 year deal 4 months ago

3) That Middlesbrough have any interest in the player

4) The Middlesbrough have anywhere near the financial clout required to tempt Rovers to sell

Basically the whole story is based around guess work and rumours. About time we got a Rovers supporting writer in who is going to contribute meaningful material to the paper, rather than the Burnley and Bolton supporters who are trying to scaremonger and mislead.

Agree with some of your points but let's remember this is a young player in a poor team coming back from injury. Let''s not be too hasty in dismissing young players too early. To me he has the speed and build to put himself about a bit. I'd give him another season under Bowyer and think we could see a different player in 12 months time.
I agree that whilst he was rather unconvincing in the majority of fixtures I saw him in, he is still a prospect with some potential, and if Bowyer can get his confidence flowing then he could have a breakout season next year. Would be disappointing if that breakout year was on Teeside.

Think of HMS Blackburn as a Type 42 Destroyer that's been hit by a stray Indian exocet missile - HMS Bonleh on the other hand is a capsized canoe that no body cares about..... that's why your on here again fanny tickler, because you've nothing else to do except create endless accounts under various user names and feed your obsession with HMS Blackburn.
You must have me confused with someone else, and why are you accusing me of tickling fannies?
My apologies. I've got you confused with some dingle whore bag who calls herself fanny tickler on here.

if it`s true that venky`s are now looking to recoup losses through player sales, then they may as well put the club on the market and try to attract someone with at least some financial clout to take the club forward.
