COLIN Kazim-Richards says Blackburn Rovers cannot think they are too good to be in relegation trouble – insisting players need to take responsibility in their bid to avoid the drop.

Rovers go into tomorrow’s match at fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday sitting level on points with the Championship relegation zone, with the prospect of dropping into League One looming ever larger.

Kazim-Richards made his return from a lengthy injury lay-off over the Easter weekend and says that both he and a number of other senior players must help the club climb out of trouble.

“It’s said to think that we’re down there, but the reality is that we are down there,” said the Turkish international.

“And the reality is that we’re not too good to be down there. If we weren’t, we wouldn’t be there.

“We’ve got to take some responsibility, all of us, especially me as well.

“We’ve got some big players and we need to start showing that right now.”

Rovers have had an astonishing five managerial changes this season, with caretaker boss Gary Bowyer now in his second spell in charge.

“If you count Gary Bowyer twice we’ve had six different people take charge of us,” Kazim-Richards said.

“When you find out through Twitter or wherever and you come in the next day and it’s someone new, and then a few weeks later it’s a totally new manager again, it’s difficult.

“It does have a massive impact. I would be lying if I said you don’t think about it. We’re here taking it day by day.

“I think it’s very difficult for the fans to see us in this position at the moment. I pray to God and hope that I can have an impact in these next few games and try and keep us in the Championship.”

Kazim-Richards is currently on a season-long loan from Champions League quarter finalists Galatasaray and turned down the option of returning to Turkey.

But he says that currently he is not thinking what his own future will hold.

“Right now I’m not thinking about anything else apart from keeping us in the league,” said the 26-year-old.

“I’m not thinking about the end of the season. I’m thinking about Sheffield Wednesday.”
