ROSS Wallace insists Burnley won't get too down about dropped points, because draws could prove valuable come the end of the season.

The Clarets have won only once in eight games but have only lost once in six going into this afternoon’s Boxing Day visit of Derby County (3pm).

And Wallace feels chipping away at the points tally slowly but surely now will help build momentum and encourage them to make more of an impact in the second half of the season.

“The manager was saying it’s important we don’t get too disappointed, because if we keep playing like we are, eventually we’ll start picking up wins,” said the winger, who scored his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Birmingham City.

“We looked the more likely to open up Birmingham and score throughout.

“Although we are disappointed (to draw) it’s important we keep picking up points, because when we do win, these points will be vital.”

Wallace believes Burnley are doing enough to deserve more from their performances.

“A lot of teams are saying the same thing, if you can put a run of results together, but looking back on Saturday's performance, we're creating chances and defending well,” he said.

“We should have been three or four up, Pato (Martin Paterson) had a couple of great chances he usually puts away, and that's the frustrating thing.

“We were thinking at half-time, ‘how are we not in front?’ “It’s important you don’t allow yourself to be disappointed, and the gaffer sent us out positive.”

Wallace added: “We’ve got a couple of home games so we’ll look forward to them.

“Hopefully we can get a couple of wins to build on the point.”

On a personal note, Wallace was pleased to get off the mark this term on what has previously been a happy hunting ground.

“I’ve been quite lucky here,” said the Scot, who had previously scored a fantastic free kick for Preston at St Andrew’s in the 2008/09 campaign, delaying Burnley’s route to the play-offs.

“I usually manage to score a free kick, but I fancied my chances and I was determined to get off the mark,” he added.

“It was a good strike. I’ve been practising my shooting, and I’m determined to get on he scoresheet more often.

“Hopefully I’ll get on the goal trail now.

“Since the manager has come in my form has picked up, I’ve been playing well, so I’m really happy and looking forward to the games coming up.”
