FULL TIME: Blackburn Rovers 1 Cardiff City 4
10:03pm Friday 7th December 2012 in Sport
HENNING Berg’s Ewood Park misery continued tonight as Blackburn Rovers produced a woeful performance to lose 4-1 to league leaders Cardiff City.
Berg has yet to win at Ewood since taking over as Rovers boss and his side have now suffered three consecutive defeats on their home patch to seriously damage their ailing promotion hopes.
Craig Bellamy was among the scorers for Cardiff on his return to his old club, as Rovers slipped a place to 10th in the table ahead of tomorrow's Championship fixtures.
Tonight's match was watched by a crowd of just 12,460 – the lowest of the season.
Mark Hudson headed Cardiff in front before half time but Josh King scored his first goal for Rovers to level just after the interval.
Bellamy made it 2-1, though, before Joe Mason and Kim Bo-Kyung added further goals for the visitors late on.

Here in the East Midlands I've watched some variable performances at Forest, Derby and Peterborough (bad, better, quite good) but I won't risk going to Leicester in the New Year and won't waste my time and petrol driving over to Ewood either.
Henning, you are a good man but not a good manager. Please go now with dignity and don't leave it too late like Kean. We need someone who can get the best out of what is actually a useful squad, pick our best players and unload some of the rest.
Is there no end to this Venky's nightmare?

3 quarters of Turf Moor did!
It was a more than deserved equaliser in a game that we had 57% of the posession, more shots and twice as many on target.
Face it mate 11 against 11 we are superior!
Its only a narrow margin (for now) but the power is slowly shifting back to the mighty Clarets.
A last minute equaliser against our main rivals is always gonna be celebrated.
At least we know B******** are our rivals.

Yes, we can play in patches, with some skilful players
But the balance of the squad is way out
There are no leaders, men of grit, physically we are lacking in strength and athleticism
This was clearly evident against a side that possessed all of these attributes.
I can even understand Berg playing Etuhu because of the lack of a physical presence
Unfortunately the guy is bone idle
As a team we are disjointed, we don’t win any second balls because our positional play is poor
I am still not convinced Berg has found his strongest first 11
Where is Givet ? he is twice the player of the current centre halves and Vukavic must be dire not to get a chance in this side
I suspect more input from venkys on team selection, probably due to contractual sagas
In fac,t is Berg really anything more than another Venky stooge?
He has arrived without any personnel, no coaches and to be frank, no real credentials
This says to me: “You can have the job Mr Berg, just do as you are told, put up with what you have got and we will pay you very well”
Remind you of any other manager we have had recently?
The problem all along has been venkys, nothing will change until they have gone
We are well and truly ruined in regards to EPL status

All is still not lost, play Kazinm Richards in centre midfield play vueckevic on the right. King in the hole with rohdes up top.
Take your pick which CB to be replaced by Givet as they were both shocking Hanley missed first header that got Dann in trouble and Dann speaks for itself. We need more action in the final third. This king lad looks okay and richards looks strong enough to play the jemaine jones role to me.
All is not lost, yet. But the Jan window beckons for defensive reinforcements and a proper holding midfielder. Etuhu was very poor, formica was week and Lowe was a passenger. Cardiff were just that much quicker sharper and effective than we were but 4 did flatter them.

Wasn't expecting a win against Cardiff who are just on fire, but shocking first half meant we were always going to be playing catchup. Berg unfortunately needs to have found his team by now, King, Rhodes and CK up front just seems to work, but Formica to me just is just frustrating and embarrassing with his diving and selfish attitude.
All in all a very telling story tonight, and I think Berg may not be too surprised if he ends up flying to Pune in the near future.

Much as I admired Berg as a player, it seems he may not be cut out for management. His previous record in Norway and his inability to inspire the team now suggests this. If so, why was he brought here when 90% of supporters were calling for experience ? Did they not want an experienced manager ? If not why ?
Is he another yes man being well paid to do as he is told ?
I hope not and hope Henning has more self respect and principles than Kean did.
Who would have thought we would have gone from a top ten Premiership team to a struggling Championship team in two years. Venkys couldn't have made a bigger mess if they had done this intentionally.

At the time of writing this comments, the Rovers are 11 points off automatic promotion slots, 4 points off playoff positions, and only 1 point ahead of the Clarets - all this while having played an extra game.
I remember vaguely, a statement either by Kean / Shebby / Venky's somewhere at the start of the season, that failure to get back to the Premiership would be unthinkable. After all the new players that have been brought in, I certainly agree that anything less than promotion this season would I fear, do further harm to the great club that is Rovers.
Shebby seems to have faded out of the limelight for quite some time now. Perhaps it's time he looks back on his decision to hire Berg, and come out with Plan B's - and while he's at it, Plan C's and D's as well?

As for in this country, well I don't see many of Venkys' poor man's KFCs springing up and they have hardly built themselves much of a positive reputation (apart from down the M65).
They have lost £19m in their first year, income has fallen by about £25m this year (not including reduced crowds) and £50m+ next. The club is worth substatially less than when they bought it they are still £24m in debt.
Financial reasons? I think not.
As for Singh; don't get me started.

The whole "we were ill advised by certain individuals, but we now know better" excuse is getting really lame. 3 AGNEW BLACK SHAW HENDRY VENKYS BERG OUT
4 Hendry is a nasty person
5 Berg one win in 55 games
And to be honest Rovers, as berg says, are not very far away. The game could have gone either way but for some slack defending and as far as blaming hendry for that. You don't give Lewis Hamilton a fiat 500 and then moan that he never wins a race do you. Its pretty obvious to most football followers that Hanley and Dann are not a good combination, thats why we got relegated and they are supposed to somehow become better because of what exactly??? Our best centre half on the books is Givet, and if you consider that when Big Sam was here we played him at right back because our centre backs of Samba and Nelsen were too good, you can see quite easily why we are where we are.
The defensive issues have not been sorted and our central midfield has not been sorted either. So hopefully in the next window, Berg will get his chance to sort it out.
I do agree about Venkys though, I mean why bother letting Kean spend all your money when he was obviously clueless shows they lack foresight.

As for lack of passion he isn't called the Iceberg for nothing. Henning didn't show much passion even when we won the Prem so don't expect that from him. Expect him to know exactly what/who he wants and doesn't want when the Jan window comes in a couple of weeks. Apart from King (who looks very good and took his goal excellently) then Berg is working with Kean's team and we all knew and said that that wasn't good enough.
Berg must be given a chance - the alternative means that we just go through the same painful and lengthy recruitment cycle again...and take yet another backward step.
There was a massive 'hole' in the Rovers team that was blatantly obvious last night and which was commented on almost all the match by the SKY idiots. This 'hole' was in center midfield. The number of times we had the ball in defence and couldn't do anything other than hoof it up the field was disgraceful. Nobody took control for us in midfield at all - Etuhu, Lowe, Formica - all reasonably decent players looked very poor. Danny Murphy or even Dunny would have made a big difference to the team last night by helping both defence and attack as they would have been able to use the ball and provide the link that was needed.
That is the type of player we need to bring-in if these two are in and out with injuries, and if we know it then Berg knows it and a central midfielder who can tackle and pass and influence the team will surely be at the top of his shopping list.

While that may be true in theory, fault still must lie at the feet of Berg at the moment. As stated above Venkys bought a formula one car and put Kean in charge of it. He sold the wheels the engine the spoilers traction control etc etc etc.
He then replaced the engine with a 500cc two stroke, put some bike wheels on it and a bell, filled the petrol engine with diesel and then resigned just after buying a carbon fibre steering wheel ( Rhodes ). Venkys bring berg in, who borrows some slicks but still has the two stroke diesel filled engine. The crowd start saying its bergs fault and the pit crew should be sacked and given no funds to put it straght. The Burnley fans that come on here have got it paertially right, we are no longer a squad filled with elite racehorses. We have one racehorse and ten domkeys. Keans signings and Bergs team selections = DISASTER.
Spot on !!!!
We all know that this squad is a shocker but when you pick MO(airfix), DE, JL, MF across midfield then you are always going to struggle to win ANY game at ANY LEVEL.
Add to that he dropped CKR and picked King up front was a bizzare selection - both King and CKR had done well at Burnley and deserved to start - but in the positions they played at Burnley - left wing and up front !!! - to drop CKR and move King to stricker and bring in "airfix" Ollson was just illogical.
As for Etuhu - he can't help being a useless tellentless footballer but he can help being a lazy b@stard - he was clearly at fault for 2 of those goals by not doing the simplest of jobs - marking up and tracking back - Unforgivable, and he should NEVER (under any circumstances) play for Rovers again.
I like HB as a man but anyone who can't pick his best available team (time after time) CANNOT and WILLNOT ever make it as a manager - those who say "judge him after he has brought in his own players" - are talking rubbish - he can't pick the best team out of the squad he has now so what makes you think he's gonna have an eye for a player - GG has not played a single minuate under HB yet we have not kept a single clean sheet - SV continues to warm the bench whilst MF plays all the time and DOES NOTHING - Marcus Ollson plays (and is completely USELESS) yet King, Nunes or even MGP can play in that position and all 3 of them are a differnet level to that useless "nothing" waste of space.
HB, do the right thing and RESIGN - be honest enough and man enough to walk away - don't wait to be sacked - oh, and whilst you're at it, drag that useless tw@t Shebby Singh with you - HE must take FULL RESBONSABILITY for your appointment - he has NO IDEA what it takes to run a professional football club in England - most of us knew it before a ball was kicked but he has, beyond a shaddow of a doubt, proved it to everyone.

Keans signings and Bergs team selections = DISASTER.
Spot on !!!!
We all know that this squad is a shocker but when you pick MO(airfix), DE, JL, MF across midfield then you are always going to struggle to win ANY game at ANY LEVEL.

We've seen the same situation at another Rovers, being QPR, where a whole bunch of players come in at a huge cost, but still struggle to play coherently as a team. Hughes did not work out for them, and dear old Redknapp has not gotten a win out of them thus far. So, sometimes it's not really a manager's fault, as the players are the ones on the field kicking the ball.
My point is simply, both Blackburn Rovers and QPR certainly have the talent to gain promotion this season (not get relegated in the case of the latter), but Berg (back to the topic of Blackburn Rovers) certainly needs to correct problems immediately. If he feels he is up to it, then by all means, carry on. But on the contrary, if he feels he cannot, then he should be man enough to own up, respectfully leave, and not keep giving interviews with prepared keywords such as 'unlucky' and 'almost'.

The positives: We potentially have a very good strike force. Colin Kazim Richards made a huge difference and Josh King thrived off of him. He had the physicality that we lacked and was the link we were missing for the first half between defence and attack. We really gave Cardiff problems on every attack we made in the second half - mainly because of the pace that we attacked with and the speed of King/Olsson and Nunes. Also I can say that our full backs aren't a problem, apart from Olsson didn't seem to know Noone was left-footed.
The negatives: We don't have a proper centre midfield partnership and none of the players we have in those positions have the flair/playmaker-like attributes to ensure we can have quick counter attacks OR to make sure we dominate the midfield in home games. Our centre-back partnership is quite honestly poor at the moment. Every free-kick was a worry, they had Turner attacking free kicks while being marked by Adam Henley, which was David v Goliath.
I'm not going to turn to Henning Berg and have a paddy at the results and whine because this isn't 5 years ago. He inherited a team which were beginning to hit a long slump after more than riding their luck. He needs to find his proper first team though, and really utilise January. Fingers crossed Venky's aren't going to be poultry with their budget.
Where January is concerned, there should be no excuses seeming as many players in Europes values are down. For example - Michu. Genuinely though, after watching that match, the strike force we had in the second half was exciting, but the defensive lapses, Formica's lovely finishing and some poor decisions by the ref cost us.
Give Berg a chance, we'll never ever move forward with the current attitude even though I despise the Venkys.

Orr is clever, Now Ispitch is moveing upward. hope he is lucky there.
Clear 10 players and get 5 quality players who is FIT for games.
Bellamy is a single player motivate and move the game plan with cardiff. See how he provocate "Lowe" and lost the balance in the game.
I was aganist Murphy, but one experiance player needed in the center to control the game. So I will play Murphy and Dunn in center Mid feild with Kazim , Rochina in the wing.
Givit should back in the center. Drop Hanley.

He never had the balls to sack Kean !
He brought in a couple of old men to play for us that are finished as footballers and he is paying them huge money , a good pension top up for these old players.
He brought in a bunch of Portuguese lads who are simply not good enough , maybe he wants them to go and play for his team in Goa !
He has not got the balls to get rid of Hendry , Steve Keans chaffeur /drinking mate ,the most negative influence at the club , what young player can possibly look up to and respect Hendry ,there is no respect there , do you think these young players have not read all about Hendry`s swindling old people and women bashing stories that are constantly in the newspapers, you cannot respect a man who cheats old people out of their life savings and also bashes up women.
Singh went for the cheap option in hiring BERG , keeping all the drinking boys in jobs, one loan player in . make no mistake Berg knew the players he had to work with , and Berg promised an instant return to the Premier league , so all that crap about Berg`s own players , looking at BERGS RECORD I WOULD NOT GIBE BERG A FIVER TO BUY ANY PLAYERS IN JANUARY , he looks like he is not going to be around long, but yet again who is gonna sack him ? NOT SINGH HE HAS NOT THE BALLS TO DO THINGS LIKE THAT.

Yes, I agree that Berg was a cheaper option as he was already out of work, but that wasn't exactly Singh choosing the cheapest option, he was set guidelines by the Venky's (the ones who actually pay to hire the manager).
Berg has had a poor start on paper, that's true, but the team actually know how to pass a ball along the floor now. If he can find the right first team to play then i'm sure he can do well. His only signing was Josh King, who whatever you may say, has brought an extra dimension to our club. He can actually run, has pace, and if we can make the right signings in January, he will be very useful to us.
The attitude of some of the fans at the moment I know is out of care and love for the club, but we are never going to move up at this rate. Many fans (thousands) don't want to go to games because it's funding the Venky's, however this means that if we don't get promoted, we don't get our parachute payment for relegation anymore, so we go into a financial crisis. I'm pretty sure i'd rather see us playing in the Championship, rather than not playing at all.
Also, the Venky's don't have the money to get most of the managers many of you wanted. Rhodes was bought with a loan... I don't think with the Venky's track record that we'll be seeing a high profile manager coming in or any season changing players. We should be the ones trying to help maximise the potential of what we have at the club.
I don't like Hendry either though.

I for one will give Berg a chance, he's a natural winner and if he gets his own way in January, I do believe he'll get the defenders/central midfielders we so crave at the moment. He has his floors, but so do the likes of Redknapp and co. Sometimes the task at hand is hard for any manager that can take the reigns, I think with his age though, he'll mould and adapt better than let's say, a more experienced manager, the championship has changed. Fingers crossed.

Kean/Venkys systematically got rid of all the good/experienced players who were the backbone of the team like Samba and Nelson, and even NZonzi who is starring for Stoke every week now - and instead they draughted in the Portugese colony (one or two decent players out of six or seven that came in) and brought in some new 'experienced players' like Scott Dann (who always looks haunted by relegation memories at two clubs now), and Etuhu and Murphy who show only patchy skill and little or no enthusiasm for the fight that is needed in the Championship.
The only real 'success' is Rhodes and maybe CKR - plus Vukevic if he is ever given a proper chance to show what he can do.
Berg is right - we need good quality and experienced players in key positions quickly. We need a central midfielder and at least one Center Half for starters. Plus one or two other experienced players in other positions like RB for instance which has been a problem area now for three seasons.
Berg has to be given time to build his own team - anything else would be ridiculous. He must know though that he has perhaps not lived up to the fans early expectations that he would initially make us harder to beat and more competitive - whilst he built his own side. We need to see what the Jan window Santa brings us now.
