Rovers pair land England call

First published in Sport

BLACKBURN Rovers due Raheem Hanley and Jack O'Connell have been included in the England Under-19 squad for their forthcoming friendly match.

The youngsters have been named in Noel Blake’s squad for the match against Finland next month, having won their first caps last month.

Hanley was named on the substitutes bench for Rovers first team’s win over Watford on Saturday and has already captained the club’s under 21 side this season.

Centre half O’Connell, 18, made 35 appearances for the academy and reserves last season after they beat a host of other clubs to his signature in the summer of 2011-12.

The pair are included in an 18-man squad for the international friendly that takes place at Telford on Tuesday, November, 13, kick-off 7.30pm.

Hanley and O’Connell both earned their first caps at Under-19 level in last month’s qualifiers in Tallinn against Estonia and Ukraine. The Finland friendly will provide good preparation for next year’s Euro Elite Qualifying Round.

This appointment would be a no brainer, if Venkys want to put right wrongs of the past this is the appointment to do that and if they could pull it off the Venkys would be looked at in a different way. Fans would flock back and have an hopeful future again. Also we would have a good chance of staying up if we got promoted with this guy. Lets hope that this is a serious approach and that they can provide the money for it and not just an excercise to to give credibility to the interveiw process. Venkys would be taken seriously with this appointment and not laughed at anymore. They ould also have the PR coup they have been longing for and a lot better than signing an old world cup star ready to be measured up for his zimafrme.
