Letter: Beacon wouldn't have saved us!

The Jubilee beacon at Clitheroe was hardly visible from Stanhill, even by telescope.
If the Spanish Armada was on its way, you couldn’t rely on Clitheroe.
The hill-top beacon, which appeared to be some 20 miles further north in North Yorkshire, was spectacular.
