I was very interested to see the photograph (LT, March 8) of the girls of the Parish School in Great Harwood 1935.
Although I did not attend that school – I attended the council school in Rushton Street – I did remember some of them and was friendly with several who later went on to Clitheroe Royal Grammar School.
Jean Pilkington was one of them. Strangely, I was in Booth’s in Clitheroe about two years ago when I recognised Jean from all those years back, and she remembered me.
I do know she died not very long ago.
Two others I instantly recognised were Clive Knowles and Joyce Shuttleworth, both of whom were my good friends.
No doubt there are others I can recognise if I study the photograph closely.
Thank you for publishing this photo. It was most interesting.
Gwen Pickles, Lower Darwen.
