I watched the news about the uprising in Libya and I dread to think how long it will be before the country is stable.

My desperate wish is that we don’t send any of our soldiers there to ‘assist’.

I hope that lessons will have been learneed with our forays into Afghanistan and Iraq but I am afraid it might turn out to be the West’s worst nightmare.

Watching the many funeral corteges that have passed through Wooton Bassett and very much moved by the rows of people old and young standing respectfully and waiting each and every time, really impressed me.

I suspect because of the tribute paid by the people of Wooton Bassett and the general sense of grief and loss, these brave young men have become real people to all of us, not just names on a list issued by the ‘War Office’.

I’d hate to think the reason that the airfield to which the planes bringing back those killed in action has been deliberately moved so that we, the public, are not to be constantly reminded of the dreadful loss of life in the war in Afghanistan.
