WHAT a week! Seems all the meetings have come at once.

I went to a meeting of the Chamber of Trade — what we need to be a really strong group is for all independent shopkeepers to join.

Then there was another for the YMCA, which helps homeless young people, before it was off with the St George’s Society for an early bird meal at Huntley’s.

I was making sure I got at least one good meal this week, but I needn’t have worried, for on Saturday I had lunch as a guest at Burnley’s first game of the season.

It was a draw but a very good game.

Before kick-off I and the crowd were visibly moved when the Lord Lieutenant of Lancashire, Lord Shuttleworth, his deputy Peter Robinson and Burnley chairman Barry Kilby made their way on to the pitch to present Clarets legend Jimmy McIlroy with his MBE.

You could really feel the love and admiration that Burnley supporters felt for him and the strong emotion that he has for Burnley.

Coming home after we passed Burnley’s impressive bus station and I thought how great a similar scheme would look under Blackburn railway station’s canopy and how handy it would be right next to where folk get on and off the train.

But then again, perhaps that solution would be a little too simple for the planners, as they seem to think it would be much better for Blackburn folk to walk across town, to the now vacated market place.

So much for making public transport more accessible.
