FINDING the best solution to the reintegration of sex offenders and paedophiles back into society is always going to be a thorny issue.

Offenders have to go somewhere when they come out of prison.

And it is in everyone’s interests that they continue to be treated and monitored by experts to ensure they do not reoffend.

But placing them in a centre close to a playground, pre-school and playing fields does not seem to the right decision.

Certainly people in the village of Edenfield are extremely worried that youngsters could be at risk if plans to house these types of offenders in their community go ahead.

And they want to know why such a facility cannot be placed in a child-free environment.

The Langley Trust has been upfront about what it plans to do at Chatterton Hey House.

The organisation has even held an open day so local people can find out more about what happens at the centre.

But before any change comes into effect, it needs to have satisfied all the concerns of villagers.

If it is not able to do that, the bosses should look elsewhere to place these offenders.
