Apparently, there are a fair few young people who have never washed their clothes.

And there is also a large percentage who don’t iron or do any sort of household chores whatsoever according to a new survey.

Now, it would be wrong for anyone to begin moaning about lazy young people, but is anyone really surprised by such claims?

There was a time when as a youngster I was deemed to be lazy but I quickly picked up the skills to ensure I could do everything myself. Maybe this was drilled into us by a mother who felt we generally were too idle for our own good. But ironing, washing, cooking and cleaning were a part of life.

So, when I went to university, I was surprised when a fellow student had no idea how to iron a shirt or turn on a washing machine. How hard can it actually be? You put some powder in and the machine does the rest.

It seems we have become obsessed with finding ways of having things done for us and by the time some teenagers are 18 they have no idea how to actually fend for themselves.

As years went by I picked up another major skill – the ability to cook some chicken and spinach.

The problem is, like some men, I tend to have forgotten all these skills since I got married.
