CAR sharing is not a new concept but it is one that is going from strength to strength in East Lancashire.

Peter Kay’s latest hit comedy Car Share highlighted the idea and more than 4,000 people across the county are sharing their journeys to work.

The comedy saw assistant manager John Redmond (Kay) and promotions rep Kayleigh Kitson, played by Sian Gibson, chatting in his Fiat 500 as Forever FM plays on the car’s radio.

Now Royal Blackburn Hospital, Blackburn with Darwen Council and Lancashire County Council are joining in on the action with their Share Wheels partnership.

As well as saving participants money on their fuel bills, the scheme reduces the amount of vehicles on the roads and cuts down on carbon emissions.

Some users have even described the benefits of the scheme as the “equivalent to a £2,500 pay rise”.

Hospital bosses now even plan to change their parking rules to help boost the scheme further.

What a great idea this is?

New technologies are making it easier to get in contact with other employees travelling the same way and it saves you money and helps the environment.

So come on East Lancashire, get involved.
