RE, Passengers offered thousands of free rides in bid to encourage more people to use buses.
Sorry but I’m just not buying it. Buses may be a lot more comfortable these days from an aesthetic point of view, but they’re still frequented by some very ignorant members of the public.
Noisy kids, kids listening to ‘music’, people talking too loud on phones, people who have no concept of personal hygiene, people with communicable diseases, single mums with stupidly big prams and a whole raft of other people with a huge sense of personal entitlement and no sense of self awareness. And aside from that, travelling by public transport can be very inconvenient and often no cheaper than taking the car.
The car, where it’s up to you who joins you an the journey, where you’re in control and where you can drive straight to your destination.
Public transport is fine for some but it’s never going to be the future and nobody is going to sell the whole Pennine Reach disaster with a few freebies.
