RE: LATEST Blackburn crash brings new calls for safety measures on road (LT, May 14).
I read with interest your feature on East Park Road and the calls for safety measures.
However I feel the proposals for traffic calming measures and a zebra crossing fail to address the real issue which is the indiscriminate parking of vehicles on both sides of the road above the park. Cars are permanently parked half on the pavement leading to a hazard for pedestrians and reducing visibility of traffic in both directions, not to mention reducing the available width of the road to one vehicle.
The solution is simple: installation of double yellow lines to overcome the parking problem and, if speed of vehicles is still considered to be a factor, then a speed camera should resolve this issue.
At least this would punish the guilty parties rather than all motorists travelling over speed bumps.
In fact, if Cllr Akhtar is to be believed then a camera would pay for itself in no time at all.
