LAST week we commemorated VE Day and paid our respects to our brave veterans who fought in World War Two, while not forgetting the soldiers who gave their lives for us in all wars so that we could live in a free country.

In Little Harwood we have a war memorial that is being used as a gathering place by people leaving behind beer cans, cider bottles, takeaway trays, and even using the grounds as a toilet.

Have they no respect for our war dead? One lady lost three of her sons in the war.

These people need bringing before the courts, dealing with and then being made to clean it up.

The council should be looking at clearing away all the bushes. It’s no good cutting them back. The trees could be left, then the whole area flattened and paved. Then people can see what is going on.

There should be no excuse coming from the Town Hall that there is no money. These soldiers gave their lives and many more are still suffering today as the result of war injuries.

So come on Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, please get it sorted. It is the least we can do.
