DESPITE becoming one of Britain’s best loved and highly regarded actresses, Julie Hesmondhalgh has never forgotten her roots.

Her portrayal of Hayley Cropper in Coronation Street has seen her involved with several ground-breaking story lines.

Her sensitive portrayal quite rightly led to a whole armful of awards.

Now her work away from the small screen has led to her being given the freedom of Hyndburn, her home borough.

Despite being immensely busy working on the cobbles of Corrie, she has always found the time to help out those in need.

Her support of Accrington-based homeless charity Maundy Relief has made a huge difference to hundreds of people’s lives.

Before Foodbanks became the flavour of the month, week in week out Maundy handed out parcels of essentials to those who found themselves at their lowest ebb.

She has also been a wonderful example to youngsters from the area who have seen how hard work and caring for others can really play dividends.

The council is quite right when they describe her as a “wonderful ambassador” and let us hope she long continues in this important role and continues to inspire others.
