PEOPLE really showed how proud they were to be from Lancashire yesterday.

Celebrations took place right across the county with Lancashire-themed foods, drink, events and town criers.

And even down at Westminster, the Thwaites shire horses were welcomed with a toast.

Celebrated annually on November 27, Lancashire Day has been increasing in popularity since it first began in 1996.

It is a chance for food and drink producers to show just how great our county produce is.

It is also a chance to celebrate the history of Lancashire and our heritage.

The concept was thought up by the Friends of Real Lancashire who wanted to make sure that future generations would remember the historic boundaries which meant people from cities such as Manchester and Liverpool were proud to be Lancastrians.

Since local government reorganisation in 1974, it would be easy to forget the near 1,000 years when the county was virtually the whole of the North West.

Long may we continue to celebrate this wonderful day.
