TEMPERATURES as low as -11°C will make for a freezing cold Christmas Eve tonight - and snow is set to return on Boxing Day, according to forecasters.
It was minus 10 again this morning in East Lancashire as ice returned to many of the area's roads.
Despite the authorities working around the clock to keep the priority routes clear, many side roads and estates are still treacherous.
Police have warned drivers to take care in the conditions as grit does not work effectively when it is colder than minus 5.
However, no major problems have yet been reported on the road network today.
The Met Office said there was little chance of a white Christmas in terms of snow falling on the day.
But snow is predicted across East Lancashire on Boxing Day evening.
