EAST Lancashire’s transport priorities are improving links to Manchester and Yorkshire, councillors have been told.
The area’s council leaders were briefed by a County Hall transport officer on transport policy in the next 10 years.
Work should be done to improve Blackburn and Darwen’s rail links to Manchester and reinstate the Todmorden Curve to offer a route between Burnley and the city, said Lancashire County Council officer Mike Cliffe.
Efforts will be redoubled to link Hyndburn to Blackburn via the Pennine Link bus scheme and rural transport must improve in the Ribble Valley, he said.
Mr Cliffe also told councillors that congestion in Rawtenstall was an issue and Pendle’s better links to Blackburn and Yorkshire were set to be a priority.
However, Pendle Council leader Mike Blomeley said it was ‘disappointing’ the transport plan had not highlighted an A56 bypass to alleviate congestion in Colne.
