PUPILS were praised for ‘achieving beyond expectations’ at a presentation evening at Fearns Community Sports College, Stacksteads.

The event on Thursday night for the returning class of 2013 saw headteacher Nigel Dawson talk of how former pupils had achieved great success.

He said: “To achieve the outstanding examination grades that many attained in the summer you have had to have a real belief in your ability.

“By having the confidence in yourselves, the determination to do well and a strong commitment to your studies many of you have been able to achieve grades well above expectation. A huge well done to you for those achievements.

“But in congratulating you on your achievements so far I urge you to keep the school motto close to hand because it will help you throughout your lives, whether in the world of education or work.”
