COMPETITORS travelled from as far afield as Malaysia, Hong Kong and America to ensure that East Lancashire’s World Black Pudding Throwing Championship had a truly international flavour.

Ancient rivalries between Lancashire and Yorkshire resumed outside The Oaks pub in Ramsbottom as thousands watched competitors hurl black puddings at a pile of Yorkshire puddings on a 20ft gantry.
This year’s champion was Mark Cannon, 52, from Swinton, who toppled eight puddings and took the £100 prize and trophy. Mr Cannon said it was the first time he had competed, but confirmed he would return next year.
The junior section was won by local girl Alex Norris, who also received a trophy and £20 prize.
Phil Taylor, one of the organisers for the Stubbins Community Trust, said: “It was a great day. The weather was so kind and everybody’s enjoyed themselves. We had a steady stream of people entering and it is great to see so many getting involved in the event.” The championships were followed by the Pudfest music festival.
