A FIRE broke out at a fast food outlet near a town centre on Friday night.

Fire crews attended from Rawtenstall, Haslingden and Hyndburn attended a fire which broke out at McDonalds, on Blackburn Road, Rising Bridge, in Haslingden yesterday just after 1am.

The fire broke out in one of the hot oil frying range in the fast food outlet, which is open 24 hours, and was put out by firefighters soon after, officer said.

Nobody was injured following the outbreak of the fire.

A fire spokesman said: "There was no damage to the premises and we got their early enough to stop the fire spreading.

"Everybody in the premises evacuated the building and it was closed for the rest of the night.

"The appliance had overheated and it was isolated.

"One of the employees tried to put it out with a fire blanket but the fire was still going underneath.

"In order to put it we had to remove the blanket which meant the fire flared up but we were prepared for this."

Cllr Val Roberts, who represents the area, said: "I've not heard of anything like this happening.

"There are plenty of fast food outlets in the area and McDonalds has a good safety record.

"I'm glad that no one was hurt."

McDonalds were contacted for a comment but were unable to provide one.
