THOUSANDS of people across East Lancashire will watch fireworks light up the skies at bonfire events this weekend.

A crackdown will take place on yobs starting bonfires and using fireworks illegally, and to check fireworks are not being sold to children.

There are plenty of organised bonfire and fireworks displays in East Lancashire to make your Guy Fawkes celebrations go with a bang. See the list below.

Friday, November 5

Blackburn: More than 15,000 people are expected at Witton Park to see a spectacular firework display. This year three charities will benefit from the event - NSPCC, Derian House and Blackburn carers. The event is organised by Blackburn Lions in conjunction with Rotary and Round Table groups. Gates will open at 5.30pm, the bonfire will be lit at 7.30pm and fireworks will start at 8pm. Entry, by donation, is £1 for adults and 50p for children.

Burnley: Hundreds of people will dig into hotdogs and burgers during the Guy Fawkes celebrations at the Thornton Arms pub, in Brownside Road. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm and the fireworks set off at 8pm.

Chorley: The Hare & Hounds in Bolton Road, Abbey Village, is hosting its annual bonfire and hog roast from 6.30pm. Call 01254 830334 for details.

Darwen: A charity bonfire will be held for Lower Darwen girl Madison Allan, who has cancer, at The Golden Cup, Blackburn Road, Darwen. Staff will be collecting donations. A firework display will start from 7pm.

Earby: There'll be a bonfire and fireworks display at the Punch Bowl, starting at 6.30pm, in aid of Bosom Friends and Help for Heroes.

Euxton: The Railway Inn, in Wigan Road, is hosting a bonfire, fireworks display and live entertainment from The Spidermonkeys and others. Tickets are £4 in advance, £5 on the night, and £2 for children. Call 01257 275005 for more details.

Haslingden: The cricket club's annual bonfire and firework display will take place from 6.30pm. There will be full bar and refreshment facilities available. Admission is £2 per adult, £1 per child or £5 per family.

Higham: A bonfire will be lit at 6pm in the village field. Admission £4 for adults, £2 for children and family tickets £10. If the weather is bad, event may be postponed till Saturday.

Oswaldtwistle: Fireworks display is expected to attract hundreds of revellers. Organisers at the event at the Global Centre said there will also be bungee runs, bouncy castles, a football cage, face painting and food stalls. The evening kicks off at 6.30. Entry is £5 on the door, or £12 for a family ticket.

Rawtenstall: Fire jugglers and a funfair will entertain the crowds at a huge bonfire event at Marl Pits in Newchurch Road from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. The prices are: adults £2, children £1, family £5. Call 01706 227 016 for information.

Thornton-in-Craven: Thornton Hall Farm will end its 2010 season with a bang with a firework spectacular from 5pm. The big finale is at 7.30pm, when 4,000 individual fireworks will be launched into the sky. To book a ticket call 01282 841148.

Tosside: The village's social committee bonfire takes place from 7.00pm and finishes at 10.00pm at Church Acre. For more information, contact 01729 840413.

Saturday, November 6

Accrington: Accrington Cricket Club is hosting the annual Rotaract bonfire night, starting at 6pm.

Chorley: The Red Bank annual bonfire and fireworks display takes place at Duxbury Park. It's the biggest free event of its kind run by a Scout group in the UK. Gates open at 6pm, the bonfire is lit at 6.30pm and fireworks begin at 7.15pm. Donations are welcome.

Clitheroe: The castle will be aglow during a bonfire and firework display in the grounds at 6.30pm. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Clitheroe, Rotary Club of Ribblesdale, Rotary Club of Pendle View, Clitheroe Lions Club and Clitheroe Round Table. The charity event will see a donation made towards the purchase of a new mini-bus for people with Multiple Sclerosis. Last year £12,000 was raised for good causes.

Laneshawbridge: The village's annual display yakes place on off Emmott Lane from 7pm. Fireworks have been donated by the Alma Inn. Organisers are laying on tea, coffee and sweets alongside a barbecue. Entry is free but donations are welcome.

Langho: St Leonard’s Scout Group are holding a bonfire and firework display at the community centre behind St Leonard’s Church. Gates open at 6.00pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6.30pm and the firework display starts at 7.00pm.

Longridge: The Derby Arms in Chipping Lane is hosting a bonfire and fireworks display from 7.15pm. The event is ticket-only, priced at £8. Call 01772 782623 for more information.

Longridge: Alston Hall, in Alston Lane, will hold its first ever professional firework display from 6.30pm to 9pm. Entry is £5 for adults and £4 for children. Home-cooked food available to purchase through out the evening.

Ramsbottom: Greenmount Scouts will hold their 41st annual bonfire and fireworks display at Longsight Road playing fields from 6.30pm. The bonfire will be lit at 7.15pm, with fireworks at 8pm. Tickets £2.50 for adults in advance (£4 on the night) and 50p for children in advance (£1 on the night). Phone: 01204 887393.

Samlesbury: Huntley's are hosting their annual bonfire event. Hotpot served from 6pm til 7.30pm, bonfire lit at 7.30pm and fireworks display at 8pm. Tickets are £6.50 for adults, £4.50 for children. Call 01772 872814 for more information.

Sunday, November 7

Burnley: (Day changed from Thursday due to weather forecast) The Bull and Butcher, Manchester Road, will be holding a bonfire from 7pm. A mini-fairground and a firework display will be on offer and hot food will be served. Admission is free.
