TALENTED twins got their new year off to a musical start — by recording their first CD single at the age of 14.

Mille and Hope Katana, who live in Summerseat, got a taste of the celebrity lifestyle on Tuesday as they worked in a studio with a top producer.

Kind-hearted businessman Brandon Pilling, of Bolton, had given them the studio time following a charity auction at Bolton Lads and Girls Club, which they both attend.

The sisters, who study at Woodhey High School, had sung on the night and impressed Mr Pilling so much he handed over a pass for recording studio time he had won earlier in the evening.

Millie and Hope spent five hours hard at work at Blueprint Studios in Manchester under the watchful eye of renowned producer Phil Critchlow.

He has worked with legends like Elton John, established artists like Lilly Allen and Bury’s own award-winning band Elbow.

Phil also helped launch the career of breakthrough band Florence and the Machine.

Millie said: “We have been recording in the very same studio as Elbow recorded. That is amazing for us. We have been blown away.

“It is really lovely that people like Phil are willing to give up their time to work with us. He has worked with people who have shaped the music we listen to today. It is a real honour. The studio is brilliant and the recording went really well. We have both enjoyed it.”

Phil said: “The girls have a real raw talent. Both of them have great voices and the song they have written is impressive.

"It will be interesting to see what happens with them in the future, but the strength of their ability is definitely there.

"The song they have been singing in the studio is wonderful.

"A lot of people fall at that hurdle. If they can keep that up then they have a bright future.”

The CD, called Don’t Waste My Time, will be available for download in the spring.
