A COUNCIL has launched a campaign urging people to perform an 'act of kindness' in their community.

Residents have been encouraged to help others feel less lonely or socially isolated as part of Rossendale Council's Act of Kindness campaign.

The council have said an act of kindness can include offering to put someone's bin out for them, having a cup of tea with a friend or simply saying hello to a neighbour.

Cllr Barbara Ashworth, portfolio holder for health and housing, said: "This is a fantastic campaign that has a dual benefit. Performing an act of kindness will make you feel good as well as the person on the receiving end.

"It’s good for your health as kindness decreases stress, depression and your blood pressure.

"I’d encourage everyone to get involved and let’s get a feel-good factor going in Rossendale."

A ‘Kindness Pledge Tree’ will be in place on launch day from 10am at Haslingden Community Link and then in locations across Rossendale during the campaign.
