A GIG will be held to encourage young people to register to vote.

The Rossendale Rize Up event will take place on Sunday at the Artisan in Brook Street, Haslingden.

There will be music from bands Education, Eton Mess and singer Tom Long, as well as access to free wifi and iPads for those who still need to register before election day.

The event is organised by Rossendale Momentum, a group which supports Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

A spokesman for the group said: “Over the past weeks we at Rossendale Momentum have listened to people who didn’t vote in the local elections for reasons related to local issues who are increasingly adamant they will vote in the upcoming general election.

“We are hearing the issues that matter to people of all ages in Rossendale - concerns about the NHS, low and unstable employment, student debt, cut backs in education, lack of affordable housing, reduced employment rights and increased poverty including increased incidents of people having to turn to food banks for support.”

People planning to register need to bring their national insurance number.

Admission for the gig this weekend will be free.
