A TEAM from Rossendale took gold at an outdoor team-building event in Chorley’s Rivington Park.

This year’s Dusk ’til Dawn overnight challenge saw a dozen teams from around the county confronted with ‘an apocalyptic scenario’, with certain tasks set in order for competitors to attain points.

The team of 10 from Rossendale, all aged between 12 and 19, was victorious as soldiers from the Army Outreach Team North West looked on.

The event, organised for the third time by Lancashire County Council’s Young People’s Service, was aiming to improve youngsters’ teamwork and communication skills.

Nikki Hennessy, the council’s lead member for schools, said the challenges set included puzzle-solving, trekking, abseiling, a low rope course and complicated code-breaking.

She added: “Be in no doubt whatsoever, this is a fantastic achievement for the young people from Rossendale.

“They really do deserve our congratulations. I was there for some of the evening and again from early morning with Matthew Tomlinson, cabinet member for children, young people and schools.

“We both fully appreciated the magnitude of the achievement, especially as the weather was horrendous. Their endurance, stamina and determination were fully tested.”
