FOURTEEN barmaids have stripped off for a calendar to raise money in memory of a customer who died of cancer.

Staff at the Footballers Inn, Summerseat, emulated the Calendar Girls after pub regular Sue Lee 50, from Brandlesholme, Bury, died in December after a five-year fight with the disease.

Fellow regular customer and professional photographer Dave Pemberton took cheeky shots of the girls in and around the pub last month.

And the calendar is proving popular, with almost all of the 300 printed sold, raising money for the Christie Hospital in Manchester which treated Sue.

Landlord Ged Guy, whose wife Jo posed as Miss December, said: "We do a lot of fundraising events at the pub, and we came up with the idea for a calendar towards the end of last year, with obviously a bit of help from the Calendar Girls film.

"We were sponsored by local businesses to cover the cost of producing it, and we decided to donate all proceeds to Christie Hospital in Manchester, in memory of Sue Lee.

"It was great fun to do, and we managed to get the photos taken, the calendar printed and on sale within a matter of weeks, thanks to everyone's help. We ordered 300 but most of those have already sold with just a few left, so we will be ordering some more. They're certainly proving popular!"

In previous years, Ged has had a tattoo of Pudsey Bear, had his head shaved in aid of Children in Need, and completed a skydive with other customers for the Christie Hospital.

He added: "We've not got any more fundraising in the immediate pipeline, but we'll definitely be doing more things this year.

"Our customers are really generous and supportive."

The calendars cost £11.99 and are available by calling the pub on 01204 883363.
