A 64-YEAR-OLD motorist clipped a cyclist with his wing mirror as he overtook knocking him off his bike.

Blackburn magistrates heard Geoffrey Cole drove off after the collision leaving the bike rider on the floor.

Cole, of Warwick Drive, Clitheroe, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention and failing to stop after a road traffic accident. He was fined £300 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge and his licence endorsed with six penalty points.

Enza Geldard, prosecuting, said Tom Burton was riding along Edisford Road when Cole came up behind him. He sounded his horn, not to warn of danger, and then served past the cyclist. As he went past his wing mirror caught the cyclist's handlebars and knocked him off.

"He didn't stop after the collision," said Mrs Geldard.

District Judge Paul Currer said it was clear Cole had become frustrated by the way the cyclist was riding.

"Your concentration lapsed and you clipped him as you passed," said District Judge Currer. "The more serious matter is that you failed to stop."
