AN organisation’s centenary celebrations will be in brighter surroundings thanks to two volunteers.

Teenagers Connor Murphy and Tom Farrell from Oakhill College, Whalley, last week volunteered to decorate the Nelson ILP Clarion House at Newchurch-in-Pendle as part of their efforts towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.

Clarion movement was formed more than 100 years ago to propagate views for a fairer, more humane society.

They painted the interior of Clarion House as Nelson ILP Land Society prepares to celebrate the group’s centenary later this year.

The boys undertook their task as part of the voluntary element of the Duke’s award scheme.

Connor and Tom were supervised by Dave Peel, the Duke of Edinburgh award leader. Sue Nike, chairman of the Land Society, said: “It was a pleasure to have Connor and Tom helping us out.

“They worked with a sense of purpose, and showed a lot of interest in what they were doing.”
