LABOUR Leader Jeremy Corbyn will today promise a Labour government will build a million affordable homes for rent in its first 10 years.
He produced figures revealing that in the Labour-run boroughs of Blackburn with Darwen, Hyndburn, Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale no social homes for rent had been completed in 2016/17.
This was despite waiting lists of 3,026 in Blackburn with Darwen, 1,792 in Burnley, 1,666 in Hyndburn, 1,355 in Pendle, and 1,295 in Rossendale.
In Tory Ribble Valley no social homes were completed in 2016/17 despite there being 956 people on the waiting list for cheap rented proeprties.
Mr Corbyn said: “We need to restore the principle that a decent home is a right owed to all, not a privilege for the few. And the only way to deliver on that right for everyone, regardless of income, is through social housing."
