A MULTI-millionaire businessman received an MBE for his services to the community.

The former Clitheroe mayor Kevin Horkin received an MBE at an Investiture Ceremony conducted by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.

An Investiture is a special day when someone who has been awarded an honour receives their award in person from the Queen or a member of the Royal Family.

Mr Horkin was awarded his MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honour's List for services to charity and to the community in Clitheroe.

The former TV presenter, who also lead the Conservatives in fight for the MP seat in Hyndburn in 2015, was accompanied at the ceremony by his mum, Wendy Smith and his long-time friend, Vicky Entwistle, who played Janice Battersby in Coronation Street.

Mr Horkin said: “I'm utterly delighted to have received this award today from Prince Charles who I met on his recent trip to Clitheroe.

"I consider it a great accolade to be receiving this honour on behalf of the large number of hard working individuals who staff the charities I represent which do such very good works on behalf of such a large number of deserving individuals."
