LANGHO residents who want to have their say on plans for a Muslim cemetery behind Northcote Manor can attend a special parish council meeting on Monday.

Billington and Langho Parish Council will meet at 7pm on Monday (June 29) at the community centre, off Whalley Road, in Langho.

Plans for the cemetery are back on the table nine years after a similar scheme was rejected by Ribble Valley Borough Council because of concerns over traffic.

Langho resident Graham Sowter was a borough and parish councillor at the time of the last application a decade ago.

He said: "The fear people had was that these funerals are attended in huge numbers and there would be rows and rows of cars coming from Blackburn.

"With that in mind this is a ridiculous place to site it, four miles outside the area of where people are going to be coming from.

"I was on the parish council at the time and we used to get one or two people attending our meetings, but on that occasion there was 350 people there. That's how big an issue it was."
