Now riding a 125cc bike, Dexter, who used to attend St Mary’s Primary School in Langho, said: “I’m really pleased with the way that last season went and I’m looking forward to competing in Italy.

“I was really proud of what I had achieved when I received my trophy in Birmingham and it’s a big deal for me as this is my first title.

“It’s hard to juggle my school work and my training but I think I have got the right balance at the moment.

“When I turn professional my aim is to become the world champion sometime during my career.

“I want to be the best in the world and I think I have the ability to be that but I will have to continue to work very hard.”

Dexter, a member of Newton-Le-Willows MCC, took up bike racing at the tender age of five and trains every night after completing his homework.

His first European championship race will take place in April in Italy.

Mrs Riley, Oakhill’s principal said: “We are delighted with Dexter’s success. He has always shown great enthusiasm for motocross showing great determination and application in his sport. He deserves this success and we wish him all the very best for the future.”
