BRAVE youngsters slayed dragons and learned the art of sword fighting and dragon spotting during a special event at Clitheroe Castle.
Dressed as fairytale princes and princesses, the year one pupils from Springfield Primary School in Burnley visited the castle as part of their fairytale literacy topic. The class was split into three groups which attended the ‘myths and legends’ event on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday last week.
Teacher Keziah Morley said: “I contacted the castle to arrange a visit to link in with our literacy topic.
“The children were shown the castle keep and then taken into a big hall where they had to spot five colours of imaginary dragons. For example, they said that blue dragons fly high in the sky and on a clear day you may see two white lines, which adults might believe are from an aeroplane.
“The children were then shown a sword ritual to keep dragons away and told a story about a dragon. The class absolutely loved the trip. It was really magical.”
