A BUSINESSMAN from Wilpshire is aiming to beat the odds and oust Nigel Evans from his Ribble Valley seat.

Labour have selected father-of-two David Hinder, from Wilpshire, as their candidate for one of the country’s safest Tory strongholds.

Mr Evans, who lives in Pendleton, is defending a 14,769 majority, after scooping 50.3 per cent of the vote in the 2010 General Election.

But Labour campaigners in the constituency are reminding the electorate that they came second in the polls four years ago.

And Mr Hinder insists that the Liberal Democrats are a ‘spent force’ in Clitheroe and surrounding villages, with the Conservatives fearful of UKIP splitting their vote.

He said: “Only Labour offers a realistic option for change here in 2015.” Today the Chancellor has announced more spending cuts. Borrowing is up and taxes are forecast to increase.

“The Ribble Valley faces five more years of shrinking public services, a crumbling NHS and the consequences of planning chaos.

“Incredibly, the Ribble Valley Core Strategy approved this week has put more pressure on local services by increasing the numbers of house built every year until 2028.”

He is pledging to meet as many residents as possible on the campaign trail.
