VETERAN Conservative councillor Dorothy Gunther’s victory in North Manor was one of the few consolations for her borough colleagues.
Coun Gunther retained the Bury Council seat, which covers Summerseat and parts of Ramsbottom, with a near 1,000 seat majority over her nearest rival.
But Ramsbottom convincingly turned red in a night of major gains for Labour across the entire borough.
Labour’s Luise Fitzwalter beat Tory Barry Theckston by 1,605 votes to 1,241, as the party increased it’s borough majority to 21.
