* Jack Straw has won a surprising celebrity endorsement for his soap box campaign.

Here’s a picture of BBC’s Top Gear motormouth presenter Jeremy Clarkson – not a known Labour Party supporter – listening intently at a recent session in Watford.

* Labour’s Gordon Prentice – under pressure from the Tories in Pendle – is going on the attack against Liberal Democrat candidate Afzal Anwar, fearing votes lost to the Lib Dems could scupper his chances.

His recent blog posts have focused on Mr Anwar, whose odds on winning the seat have been slashed, and he posted a video on his website of his rival struggling with a question about the Euro in a recent hustings.

* Allan Knox, the Liberal Democrat hopeful for Ribble Valley, won’t have thanked Nick Clegg for reminding viewers of last week’s TV debate that he wants to scrap BAE Systems’ Eurofighter contract, which employs thousands of people in East Lancashire.

“Please could you be precise on Eurofighter”, he tweeted to his leader, as their manifesto only mentions part 3B of the £3bn deal.

* Voter apathy is thriving in the Infirmary area of Blackburn, where even a visit from the Foreign Secretary failed to persuade Lee Rothwell to vote.

David Miliband took a look around the Rothwells’ Infirmary Street home, built under the government’s Housing Market Renewal.

But Mr Rothwell was unmoved: “I was impressed with him and I'm always prepared to listen to what politicians have to say but I've not voted in 10 years and I won't be voting this time.”
