HYNDBURN MP Graham Jones has called for extra government cash for Lancashire County Council to repair potholes.

He is astonished the highway authority refused to fill the cavities on Horne Street in Peel ward near Accrington town centre.

Last month he was told by the county council they were not deep enough.

Mr Jones said on Facebook: “Incredibly these potholes don’t qualify for repairs as they are not 40mm deep. Given there are cobbles underneath it is more than likely they may never be 40mm deep?Austerity.”

Immanuel ward Tory councillor Judith Addison replied: “They call it 'intervention level'.

“I reported two potholes a few feet apart: they filled one and not the other. When I asked why they said the other wasn’t at intervention level, the mind boggles.”

Mr Jones added: “A choice has been made to slash local authority funding. One I disagree with. I want to see a Labour government reverse local authority cuts.”

“Letting people know their road is of concern but isn’t being repaired is also letting them know the facts.”
