Van driver admits leaving Pendle cyclist in road to die

VICTIM Michael Isherwood VICTIM Michael Isherwood

A VAN driver said to have hit a cyclist and then driven off, leaving him him dying at the roadside, has today been warned he is facing jail.

Andrew Stanley Edwards, 47, admitted causing the death of Michael Isherwood by careless driving on Kelbrook Road, Salterforth, last November 22.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident.

Edwards, of Hyde in Cheshire, who was employed as a fruit and vegetable delivery driver for a catering firm, was given unconditional bail until July 4, for a pre-sentence report.

Judge Simon Newell told him: "You have to be aware that all sentences are at large and there is a very strong preponderance that will be a custodial sentence in this case."

Mr Isherwood, 36, lived with his parents at Meadow Way, Barnoldswick, and worked as a canal boatmaster, taking parties on canal boat trips.

Why give him bail then ?

Because that's what Judge Newell does - don't foget that he's the one responsible for letting that scrote out on bail on who then went on to murder his girlfriend.

WARNED he's going to jail? Warned? He's a murderer, plain and simple. If he does less than five years (which is tragically all too likely) then there will be outraged people who are going to be seriously disappointed with the pathetic legal system in this country.

did this guy not after the crash try and mend his van not far from the scene to cover it up?
This judge is an embarrassment but will he be ever be held to task over the nurse tragedy?

This murderer should not be on bail, this pathetic judge has got it wrong.

This so called human being killed this young lad in the first order and should be put in prison until his sentience is heard. Hopefully he will go to prison for 10 to 15 years? He is a road killer and to me he is a murder.

unconditional bail just means he's required to return to court on a specific day at a specific time, no driving ban,, nothing. Why allow bail on a guilty to both charges plea? and what does this miserly Judge mean 'all sentences are at large? Does Judge Lunt mean he is going to sit on his book of justice and ponder which sentence is 'appropriate'?
NO! throw him in jail (along with Lunt) and throw away the key at least until they understand the word compassion and Justice. two crimes, one sentence..simple

Utterly pathetic. You were there and saw this yourself did you?

Don't forget, idiots can jump to conclusions with no bearing in reality, comes to mind.

There are many motorists out there who would think no more about leaving a cyclist dying at the side of the road after hitting them, than they would splatting a fly on their windscreen. They don't consider the lives of cyclists, their children, husbands and wives, jobs, etc. We're cyclists, we're scum, and we deserve to die.

Whatever the cause of the initial collision he should not have been left to die. If it was the cyclists fault then i suspect the driver had other reasons for running, no insurance or drink et al, if he was not at fault why not get help for the cyclist, why leg it?

We can never be sure what caused the initial collision but the second he decided to leave the scene and this man lying there to die he not only committed and offence but also causes me to question what he had to hide?

That he has been granted bail makes me think he will get at worst a short custodial sentence.
