A 27-YEAR-OLD man who left the scene after crashing into a parked car returned two days later and offered to pay for the damage.
Blackburn magistrates heard the car owner told Sharaz Ahmed the matter had already been put in the hands of his insurance company and the police.
But before the extent of the damage to his car could be evaluated the vehicle was destroyed in a fire.
Ahmed, of William Street, Brierfield, pleaded guilty to failing to stop after an accident. He was fined £80 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge and banned from driving for six months under the totting up procedure.
Alex Mann, prosecuting, said the crash occurred in Walter Street, Brierfield, and CCTV showed the car driven by Ahmed reverse away from the crash and then drive off.
John Rusius, defending, said Ahmed had a momentary lapse of concentration.
"He knew the owner of the car and thought he was on holiday," said Mr Rusius. "He went back a couple of days later to apologise."
