A TUMBLE dryer ‘burst into flames’ in a street on Sunday.

Fire crews from Nelson and Burnley attended Walter Street in Brierfield at 7.40pm after the dryer had been dragged out of a garage when smoke had been seen coming out of it.

A fire service spokesman said: “On arrival firefighters using a hose reel extinguished the appliance which had been dragged out of the property, by the occupier, into the street before bursting into flames.

“It was due to the property having the relevant smoke detection that prevented any serious damage or harm being caused.
