NEW vandal-proof steel nets look set to be introduced at a ‘neglected’ tennis courts in Brierfield.
Councillors have been campaigning for improvements to the facility at Heyhead Park for some time and have been offered a way forward by leisure bosses.
Town hall officials say the cost of laying new asphalt would come in at around £117,565.
And after an inspection, the surfaces were found to be reasonably intact, according to a Brierfield and Reedley area committee report. Leisure official Kieron Roberts is now recommending that current markings be replaced by lines for two new tennis courts and a five-a-side football pitch. And full-size steel tennis nets, instead of the usual cord nets which are often vandalised, have also been suggested.
The council’s parks department is prepared to put £1,595 and Brierfield and Reedley councillors are being asked to approve plans tonight for the remaining £4,000.
