A VIDEO showing the body of an East Lancashire man in his Thailand apartment was posted on YouTube.

Christopher Wood’s family said they had been left disgusted, shocked and horrified at publication of the footage on the website.

His daughters said the video had robbed their father of his dignity.

The footage was yesterday removed from the website after the Lancashire Telegraph alerted Pendle MP Andrew Stephenson who contacted YouTube.

Bosses of the video sharing website said they had clear policies that prohibited inappropriate material, and removed content that ‘violated its terms of use’.

Mr Stephenson is now speaking to the Thai ambassador to ensure the clip is not show again on Far East media outlets.

Mr Wood, 55, who lived in Gisburn but had spent most of his life in Pendle, died of natural causes after collapsing in his rented apartment from blood and respiratory failure caused by the clogging on his arteries.

The builder and former landlord, known as ‘Woody’, spent six months every year in Thailand and was on his third visit to the coastal town of Pattaya.

The father-of-three’s death was covered in the local newspaper, the Pattaya People Weekly, which produced an online video, show him lying shirtless on a bed with a woman in her 40s nearby crying.

Daughters Samantha Walls, 27 and Kirsty Wood, 20, were disgusted to discover the video.

Samantha said: “We were so shocked and horrified to see the video of dad just lying there with all those people around him. Its disgusting. We wouldn’t have minded them publishing a picture of him alive, but not his dead body. They have stolen his dignity.”

The reports also claimed Mr Wood was married which his family deny.

Samantha said: “We have no idea who those women were in the video or the woman who was pretending to be his wife. All we do know is my dad certainly wasn’t married to any of them.

“No matter where dad visited he would try and avoid the main tourist spots as he preferred to try and live like a local. He would always say ‘I’m doing it Woody’s way’.”

Mr Wood died on January 30. On the trip he was celebrating receiving the all clear from cancer. He had battled skin cancer for more than a decade but was told the good news three weeks before he left, his family said.

The businessman lived and worked in Colne before moving to Todber Caravan Park.

Mr Wood’s daughter’s received the news of his death via a telephone call from a man using their fathers Thai mobile.

Kirsty said: “My dad was a bit of a joker so to start with we thought the caller was joking.

“He was a really happy man, who had a laugh you would never forget. When he found something funny he would grab his belly and laugh until he couldn’t laugh any more.

“He loved Colne but he also loved Thailand. We are taking comfort knowing he was somewhere he loved when he died.”

Mr Wood also leaves another daughter Christina. 17, who lives in Essex, son-in-law Ryan, brothers Peter and Michael, a sister Pat plus many close friends in Colne.

Mr Stephenson said: “Clearly it is shocking that such a clip has found its way onto YouTube and it must have been very upsetting for the family.”

Foreign Office officials confirmed that they offered consular assistance to the family following the death.

A Youtube spokesman explained their policies on offensive videos: “When users feel content is inappropriate they can flag it and our staff then review it as quickly as possible to see if it violates our terms of use.

“If users repeatedly break these rules we disable their accounts.”

Mr Wood’s funeral service and cremation will take place at Burnley Crematorium on March 1 at 3pm.

Family flowers only have been requested.
