MORE than 120 metres worth of fencing is being suggested as the solution to an allotment’s intruder problems.
Youths have been caught drinking alcohol and suspected adult drug addicts are using the Basil Street site in Colne as a hangout.
The two-metre high fence, made of green mesh, will run along Basil Street, level with Zion Street on the north side, according to proposals lodged with Pendle Council.
Petra Wilson, of the neighbourhood management unit, said: “The mesh is ‘anti-climb’ to prevent access to the site for those intending to use it inappropriately.
“In the past young people have easily accessed the site, and also people with drug and alcohol problems.”
She hopes the views of the allotments from Basil Street will not be diminished, with plants being encouraged to grow alongside the proposed fencing.
