PLANS to introduce a deposit return scheme for plastic bottles has been welcomed by Andrew Stephenson MP.

The Pendle Tory believes the proposal, confirmed yesterday (WED) will increase recycling rates and slash the amount of non-biodegradable waste polluting Britain's land and seas.

A consultation will look at the details of how such a scheme would work said Environment Secretary Michael Gove.

Mr Stephenson said: “The amount of waste polluting our land and seas remains a great source of frustration for residents all over Pendle.

"It’s one of the biggest issues that’s raised with me on the doorstep.

“We are working to leave our planet in a better state for the next generation, with cleaner air, greener spaces, stronger protections for animal welfare and tougher action on plastic waste.”
