A BURST water main led to water gushing out of the road, a county councillor said.
County Cllr David Whipp, who represents West Craven on Lancashire County Council, said United Utilities were out overnight on the A56 by St Michaels Church, Foulridge, to tend to a burst pipe.
County Cllr Whipp said: " United Utilities have been out overnight to the A56 at Foulridge and confirmed that the water gushing out of the road and breaking it up)is from a burst six inch water main.
"They'll be dealing with this as a matter of urgency, they aren't sure if it'll be today though. The work will involve having temporary traffic lights.
"In the meantime, please watch out for the water and damaged road surface as you pass the church."
It is not known if the burst had led to any residents being left without water.
